LIGHT, SHADOWS, & OBJECTS
2014's theme is about de-mystifying what “seeing art” means and looks like, and how we see it. Light, shadows, and the objects, through the manipulation of an artist, can create a familiar object unfamiliar and create evocative effects.
Light forms everything we see. It constantly hits our eyes, bringing information about the environment. It's primary source of every image!
Light is what makes everything visible. With the information we read from the shadows, we are able to determine the shape of objects without touching them. Transforming the objects into artistic inspiration, allowing artists to turn them into works of art through the use of different mediums, such as paint, sculpture, printmaking, filmmaking, and etc.
Artists of all discipline treat light as an addition to the picture, an atmosphere-maker. The truth is without light there would be nothing to paint.
Light is used to create realistic and fantastical effects in a wide range of visual media.
Much of the emotion in a painting is achieved from the sensitive use of the light in the subject. Without its effects, painting often look flat and bland, yet it is something that many artists find quite daunting to master.
Light and Shadows visually define Objects.
