ThinkArt! Internship program

The ArtSpace Internship Program with ThinkArt! – Think & Wonder, Inc. is designed to provide exposure to and experience in a community-run gallery initiative environment to undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates (within one year of graduation). Internships are available throughout the school year in Fall and Spring Sessions, as well as during the summer. Under the supervision of a department head and key staff members, interns will participate in daily administrative and research activities conducive to their academic and professional growth. Students who wish to obtain academic credit for their internship may do so and must make their own arrangements with their college or university.

The internship is unpaid and requires a commitment and passion to serve the community.

Academic Year Internships
Interns are accepted twice during the year, in a Fall Session taking place from September through early-December, and a Spring Session, which runs from February through May. Intern hours are flexible to accommodate class schedules; however, participants are required to intern a minimum of eight hours a week and must complete 90 hours during the internship session. The deadline for Fall Session internship applications is July 15, and the deadline for Spring Session internship applications is October 31.

Summer Internships
The Summer Session runs from June through August. Participants are required to intern a minimum of ten hours a week and must complete 120 hours during the course of the summer internship. The deadline for Summer Session applications is March 15.

What ArtSpace Internship will Offer?:
  • Curatorial
  • Directorial/Administrative
  • Events Planning/Marketing/Public Relations
  • Guests Services/Donor Relations
  • Education
  • Human Resources/Volunteer Management

Curatorial
Interns will assist with both exhibition-specific tasks and general curatorial activities. An effort will be made to include interns in all aspects and phases of a project or exhibition and to enable interns to gain an understanding of the exhibition process.  Tasks may include but are not limited to:
  • General art historical research
  • Photo research
  • Writing wall texts
  • Data organization and entry

Directorial/Administrative
Interns will gain experience in all aspects of the administrative functions of gallery operations: Working with volunteer groups to support programs and events; Membership endeavors – community involvement acquisition, In-kind gift/donation acknowledgement; Database functions and updates; Internal office organization; and Discretion and professionalism in dealing with sensitive information.

Events Planning/Marketing/PR
Interns will have the opportunity to gain experience in three different aspects of daily operations, including events planning, marketing, and public relations.  Tasks may include but are not limited to:
  • Organizing and evaluating advertising and marketing initiatives
  • Assisting with external and internal ThinkArt! events

Guest Services/Donor Relations
Interns will gain experience in all aspects of the guest services/donor related functions of ThinkArt!. Tasks may include but are not limited to:
  • Gain inside information into practice and policy in a non-profit donor setting
  • Develop practical skills and understanding of visitor services and donor relations
  • Network with art professionals and interact with other art organizations
  • Develop and participate in ThinkArt! event: ThinkArt! Cafe Roundtable discussion group.

Education
Interns will gain experience in art & cultural education programs. Tasks may include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting in development and research of hands-on art programs and activities
  • Writing and designing printed materials for art & cultural events
  • Planning, managing, and directing the logistics of events
  • Scheduling and training of event volunteers

Human Resources/Volunteer Management
Interns will assist in various tasks related to the strategic Human Resources partnership with the mission and goals of ThinkArt!  Tasks may include but are not limited to:
  • Working with volunteer groups to support ThinkArt!’s mission and endeavors
  • Assisting with volunteer management
  • Surveying other gallery/not for profit policies and procedures
  • Assistance with implementation of Human Resources processes
  • Creation of volunteer friendly/time-saving tools
  • Assisting in the development of Gallery processes, policies, and procedures
