UPCYCLE ART:  YOGURT & CEREAL

While much of the world may not be at all familiar with the idea of upcycling as a way of life, the artistic community has long been a proponent of "something from nothing."  By creating works out of waste artists are showing the beauty that is present in the most mundane of things.  Their also saving money on costly supplies.  These individual efforts show how we can separate ourselves from the waste cycle and embrace the now profitable efforts that can exist alongside zero-waste living.

Demeter with Horse & Chariot

• Demeter (goddess of harvest/agriculture): Kashi cereal, cups, cereal box, and foil lids. 94.3 hours construction
• Chariot: Dannon yogurt cups, foil lids, 2" styrofoam, and wood. Fully functional chariot. 149.8 hours of construction
• Horse: Dannon yogurt cups, foil lids, and Styrofoam. Height: 6-feet tall. 58.7 hours of construction
• Total Project Hours:  302.8 hours of construction

• Total length: a little over 34 feet
• 4100 foils lids
• 1200 plastic yogurt cups
• 30-feet flex ducts for body (10 ft sections each: 10”, 8”, 6” diameter)
• 4-feet foam (carved/constructed) head
• 175-hours of construction (2-week process with 7 crew members: Heather, Elaine, Terri, Pablo, Michael, Bill, and Gwaylon)

And lastly, no we did not eat all the yogurt.  Can you imagine?
