Echoes
Of The Past is this spring 2014 theme offered to
reflect the voices, thoughts and histories of the residents and artists of the
Las Vegas Valley and the surrounding areas.
Behind the theme — is the idea that many artists have, as individual artist, been influenced, moved, or inspired by another artist (living, dead, famous, or not). It may have animated, troubled, consoled, or inspired them. We have task the artists to share that story with us.
We want our local artists to share with the world, the profound connections that exist between their past and present and offer an alternative look at contemporary art, through their eyes as one of today’s contemporary artists. The theme hopes to contextualizes the history and practice of artists looking back at their work and that of others.
We hope this will inspire works that touch upon the diversity of communities in the valley, the relationships created, the traditional 'rite of passage' for young people and what may have replaced it. Echoes Of The Past endeavors to be a living history exhibition tying the past to the present for today's contemporary artists.
